Automotive Tariff Landscape in 2026

The automotive sector faces multiple overlapping tariff regimes that make compliance critical.

Section 232 Auto Tariffs: 25%

Effective April 3, 2025. Covers passenger vehicles (HTS 8703-8704) and specified auto parts. Applied on top of base MFN rates. USMCA does NOT exempt from Section 232.

Section 301 (China Auto Parts): 25%

Most Chinese auto parts face 25% Section 301 tariffs under Lists 1-3. Stacks with Section 232 for steel/aluminum auto components. EVs from China face 100% tariff.

USMCA: 75% RVC Required

Automotive rules of origin require 75% regional value content (up from 62.5% under NAFTA). Core parts must meet specific thresholds. Failure means full MFN duty + Section 232.

Section 122: +10% Additional

Effective Feb 24, 2026. Applies to auto parts from non-USMCA sources. Stacks with all other tariff layers.
